Jodi's favourite techniques

Hello everyone,
Im Jodi Dolbel proud Design Team Member for A2Z Scraplets.
I just wanted to share with lovers of A2Z Scraplets, some of my very favorite techniques for these gorgeous little pieces of chipboard.
Its no mystery that I am a HUGE fan of A2Z Scraplets, even before I was on the design team, i had a huge collection of them!!!
There is a scraplet for every occation.....
So I'd like to show you a technique for every occation to bring life to your layouts and projects using these wonderful embellishments!!!
The first technique I love to use on Scraplets is:

Twinkling H2Os
Anyone that stops by my blog will testify to this... Its such wonderfully easy stuff to use (But quiet hard to find!!!)
This is an example of using Twinkling H2Os

I have used them on the "Worm" (not grub so Im told!!)
The beauty of the twinking H2Os, is that they are a fast drying paint and therefore, with a small brush you can paint them on to give detail to the etched Scraplets, and also use different colours successfully without bleeding or mess...

Paint
Using paint on a scraplet just requires a bit of forethought. If you think ahead about your layout and get your scraplet done straight up, putting your layout together quickly wont be a drama.
Here I have painted the "All Geared Up" page Kit with brown paint, and then used bubble wrap with black paint and patted it over the top. Gives it that grunge kind of look that I wanted for this layout.

I have also painted the "Australia Day" title with paint in this layout, and then using a very fine brush, tried to paint the Australian Flag in.

Beading
For something a little different, and a little more time consuming, how about trying beading on your scraplets.
On this "Butterfly Dreams" page kit, I have covered the frame with tiny beads I found at a $2 shop. First off I covered the frame in a glue such as Pritt Gel or Helmar 450 adhesive. Then I sprinkled the beads on pressing them onto the frame as I went.

When I was happy with the coverage of the beads, I then went over the beads with Dimensional Magic to hold them all in place.
To cover the Butterfly Dreams title, i have used a Glitter Glue.
All I did with it was just colour in the title and wait for it to dry.

Ink
Of course Ink is always a great way to colour your scraplets and there is no end of inking techniques you can use...
With this "Church" scraplet, all I have done is lightly inked the entire scraplet, and then went over the edges slightly darker. If you want a shiny finish, cover the scraplet with Dimentional Magic.

Kindy Glitz
This is also marvellous stuff... But it does take so long to dry. Plan on covering your scraplet a good 6 hours ahead of when you want to stick it down, or place it under a heater and it should dry in about 2 hours!

To cover your scraplet, just sqeeze the kindyglitz straight from the tube.. Easy Peasy!!! Make sure there aren't any bubbles and there is full coverage on the scraplet.
Folkart Papier Glitter
Once again this is fab stuff. Again takes ages to dry but not quite as long as kindyglitz.
I love this stuff for Vintage layouts..
Gives a real "old World" feel about it.
I used the Papier Glitter on the "Butterfly Kisses" page kit in this layout. And doesnt it look great!! Really eyecatching, which is good as the photo isn't that crash hot!!!

Once again to use Papier Glitter, its in a tube similar to Dimentional Magic and you just sqeeze it out. It does take a bit to get that smooth coverage, I suppose depending on the age of the product your using... I think it might clog a bit as it gets older.
But definately worth the effort.

Patterned Paper
This can be a bit tricky to use on your scraplets. Best used on pieces that have a bit of size to them, like this butterfly or the albums and such.
Everyone has a different technique for covering chipboard. So i will give you my way.
First cover your scraplet with a good glue. I use Helmar 450 adhesive!! Love the stuff!!!
Make sure you get right to the edge of the scraplet, but only have a fine coverage of glue (Otherwise you will get a huge mess)
Adhere the front of your scraplet to the back of the patterned paper you are using. Let it dry for a bit. Then using a sharp craft knife, carefully cut all around the edge of your scraplet.

When you have it all cut out. Gently remove rough edges with a fine sandpaper. You might like to go over the edges with ink, or you can use paint.. But do the paint before you cover your scraplet with the paper.

Folkart Papier Metallic
Im not as happy with the coverage of this product on scraplets, but if its a look that is required on your layout, than give it a go.
This is applied the same as the Papier Glitter, only its a much thicker coverage and takes ages and ages to dry!!!

The methods described above are a few of what I have tried. But my access to supplies is hugely limited as I dont have a scrap shop anywhere near me.. The closest is over 400kms away!!! Very sad!
So I am sure there are many more techniques.
I have seen techniques like:
Embossing. This is a powdered product that is sprinkled onto your item and then heated with a heat gun to give a beautiful glazed finish.
Glimmer Mist. This is a spray that is similar to Twinkling H2Os. You spray it on for a fine glimmery finish. The more coats you give it, the more vivid the colour.
If you have any other suggestions for covering your scraplets. Please share it in the comments for this post!!!
We'd love to hear from you....
Thank you to Jodi and Julie (A2Z Scraplets) for allowing us to share this information with you. For more information on scraplets please check out the A2Z Scraplets Blog (there is a link on our page) and to see more of Jodi's wonderful work please check out her blog.
